The Military Question - Does Bush Come Before the Constitution?

I,____________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to the regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship.  Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

Move to Counteract Depression

- By Jodie Hemerda

If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy. James Madison, as a United States Congressman

“Support our troops, Bring them home!”

 - InterAct disagrees with current US foreign policy in Iraq, Afghanistan, Venezuela…, but we thank those soldiers who give their time, energy and lives to our country. Though I hold them accountable to International Humanitarian Law, for the most part they are mere pawns in a sick game of chess. The time has come to stop destroying human life and bring them home. I grieve for all the lives lost in this tragic conflict.

- InterAct also disagrees with Sgt. Asan Akbar’s violent “fragging” (a term from the Vietnam War, meaning the deliberate killing of officers or sergeants by troops under their command, usually by rolling a fragmentation grenade into their quarters) in Kuwait. Though he may view his attempts noble, we see all violence against mankind as unnecessary and inhumane.

A press conference transcript from January 31, 2003 in which President Bush and Prime Minister Blair spoke with the media. The relevant section:

[Reporter] One question for you both. Do you believe that there is a link between Saddam Hussein, a direct link, and the men who attacked on September the 11th?

THE PRESIDENT: I can't make that claim.

President George W. Bush, March 17, 2003:

The Iraqi regime continues to conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised. It has used weapons of mass destruction. It has a history of reckless aggression and a deep hatred for America and our friends. And it has aided terrorists, including al-Qaida.

. . .Listen to the first anti war song.

Go ahead. Saddam will quickly fall, but that won’t make the world safer or more secure. Your bombs will send me a new generation of recruits and fuel their hatred and desire for revenge. So go ahead. Squander your wealth on war and occupation -- America will be weaker for it. Divide your people, divide the world, isolate yourselves! Perfect! I thrive on chaos. I need an enemy. You give me both.

Political violence is an act of force, intimidation or abuse by a group or individual aimed at influencing, maintaining or seizing political power. The time has come to end such illegitimate violence perpetrated by our own United States government.
